About This Blend

Working closely with the 27 women of Samagaun & Tergar Charity Nepal, we created the Organic Wild Himalayan Gob-chi blend to benefit the women and the biodiversity that surrounds them. In Autumn, the women harvest wild grown, organic, gob-chi berries. Himalayan gob-chi berries are of the highest quality, maintaining their complex flavors and nutritious benefits, and are high in antioxidants. Hand-picked by the women, each gob-chi berry comes from wild bushes growing at 3,550m altitude. They are cleaned by hand and dried in specifically designed solar dyers.

This year’s harvest celebrates the success of last year’s harvest. The immense support of the 1st edition of Wild Himalayan Mountain tea has allowed the women to grow their harvest, buy basic food which is not available in the village like rice and dhal (lentils), afford transportation to Kathmandu and pay for healthcare expenses.
First Harvest
2022

A herbal tea with floral notes and a pink hue that represented the Color of Biodiversity. This harvest was a berry-forward tea that had hints of tart hibiscus and sweet currant.

Second Harvest
2023

A green tea with a full-bodied palate. The addition of increased solar driers for the 2023 harvest reduces moisture in the berry creating a complex flavor.

Nestled at the base of Mount Manaslu deep in the Himalayan Mountains is the remote village of Samagaun. The women of Samagaun are a resilient group of women. Their strength is shown every day as they maintain and grow harvests year round in difficult mountain conditions.

The focus of this social impact TEALEAVES project is to listen, share, and collaborate with the women to assist them in the creation of a sustainable brand, and international reputation for their gob-chi berries by 2026.
100% of the proceeds from the tea will be donated to the women of Samagaun.
Every purchase will help the women gain empowerment within their community as they grow their infrastructure and cultivate their land to increase their harvest in a biodiverse manner, so that it can prosper for decades to come.
PGS Certified and Mountain Partnership Supported
"Around the world, important agrobiodiversity and traditional knowledge are disappearing as farmers switch to growing commercial crop varieties that are more profitable in the short term. Long term, however, these crops – which are not adapted to the local ecosystems – can cause environmental degradation and inhibit climate adaptation. One way to promote smallholders’ products is through the development of participatory guarantee systems (PGS). PGS are quality assurance schemes for agricultural products, internationally recognized as low-cost certification suitable for smallholder farmers and local/national markets."
