TEALEAVES and PANTONE Announce the Official Color of Biodiversity

Today marks a vital moment in TEALEAVES' ongoing work to protect the planet. In collaboration with PANTONE Color Institute and in support of United Nations Biodiversity & World Biodiversity we celebrate the reveal of the official Color of Biodiversity; a color selected by PANTONE Color Institute.

Biodiversity is essential to human survival, however, three-quarters of the land on earth has been altered by human actions which are causing the loss of species at an alarming rate. The Color of Biodiversity aims to bring awareness to biodiversity loss as the other side of the coin to climate change.

The origins of this initiative were ignited by our previous work which showcased the value of nature and design autonomously. From Garden of Secrets exploring how to successfully choose biodiverse ingredients, to Color in Sight highlighting color’s ability to change perception and mood; the Color of Biodiversity unites two worlds together to reveal how design can protect nature.

The distinctive hue selected by PANTONE Color Institute is reminiscent of the oldest pigment on earth. The pigment was discovered in 1.1 billion-year-old marine sedimentary rocks of the Taoudeni Basin in Mauritania West Africa by Dr. Nur Gueneli.

"The bright pink pigments are the molecular fossils of chlorophyll that were produced by ancient photosynthetic organisms inhabiting an ancient ocean that has long since vanished."

If biodiversity loss continues at its current rate, it will undermine progress made in 80% of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Biodiversity is incredibly important, yet it is not well understood. We take the initial steps towards building awareness through the Color of Biodiversity. Together we can protect biodiversity through collaboration and innovative biodiversity+ solutions. Learn more about how you can help here.
