HOME V.S INDUSTRIAL COMPOSTING
  • Certain compostable products will not be able to be fully composted in a home compost system.
  • Home compost is backyard compostable and uses natural elements to break down.
  • Industrial compost relies on compost facilities where specific heat and moisture conditions are maintained to break down the material.

Define Biodegradable:

  • Refers to the breakdown of materials in the environment.
    • The term biodegradable can be misleading as with long periods of time all materials will break away into smaller pieces, including plastics, and can be harmful to the environment.
