TEALEAVES is the bespoke tea blender of choice to five-star hotels and Michelin-star chefs worldwide. For the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, TEALEAVES has come out with a special edition Lucky Envelope, which includes two tea blends: Organic Long Life Green and Organic Imperial Oolong. The Lucky Envelope is designed as a gift to celebrate heritage, culture, and the “Year of the Rooster.” .
Red Envelopes are monetary gifts presented at social and family gatherings such as weddings, the birth of a new baby, graduation, or holidays such as the Lunar New Year. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and superstition suggests it is supposed to ward off evil spirits. The gold foil details symbolize fortune and prosperity.
The brief given to the in-house creative team was to create a modernist tea approach to the traditional Red Envelope. The design would be positioned as a welcome amenity in hotel suites and for sale online and in retail locations.
The illustration of the rooster reflects the Lunar New Year for 2017, which is in the Year of the Rooster. The rooster was painted by the same in-house watercolor artist who has illustrated all of TEALEAVES’ packaging to date and was converted into a gold foil debossed image.
Additional details were added to the box to contribute to the sensory unboxing experience. The TEALEAVES logo is blind-embossed and the blend name, number, and Chinese characters 吉祥 – meaning ‘lucky’ — are debossed in gold foil.
Within the Lucky Envelope, the Organic Long Life Green is painted with imagery of the Koi, which represents prosperity and good fortune. The Organic Imperial Oolong’s dragon symbolizes power, strength, and good luck.
