Saskatoons (Amelanchier Alnifolia) are purplish-blue berries grown on a deciduous shrub-type bush in Saskatchewan. The derivation of Saskatoons comes from the Cree noun Mis-sask-quah-toomina. The Aboriginals used saskatoons as an important food and today, Canadians enjoy the sweet, nutty berries for baking, jams and even wine.
These berries are starting to become known as SUPERFOODs: rich in fiber, and a good source of calcium, potassium, carotene, magnesium, iron, and vitamin C. We use these important berries for their strong antioxidants, flavonols and polyphenols.
"The high quality of the products makes working with the teas easy. We cover the spectrum from cocktails to desserts, including a Pear Tree Green tea martini, crème anglaise infusions, crème brûlées or sorbets like Mountain Berry."- ICON Vincent Parkinson
